Nebenzya: Implementation of Trump's Gaza Plan Falls to Its Proponents

18 November

The implementation of US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza now rests entirely with its authors and supporters, particularly Arab nations, following the UN Security Council's adoption of the American-drafted resolution, stated Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.

The Security Council earlier passed the US resolution, with Russia and China abstaining from the vote. "We expect the United States to demonstrate its peacemaking capabilities in practice, to be judged by their ability to deliver a sustainable peace where Israel and Palestine coexist peacefully and securely within the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states," Nebenzya declared after the vote. "This must align with UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, international law, and existing agreements that balance Israeli security needs with Palestinian statehood rights. The execution of President Trump's plan now falls entirely to its drafters and supporters, particularly the Arab-Muslim group of eight."

The Russian diplomat acknowledged US and other mediators' success in halting active hostilities but cautioned that "there is unfortunate precedent where US-driven solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict have produced outcomes opposite to their intended goals." He concluded with a stark warning: "Don't say we didn't warn you."

The US mission to the UN had stated that its resolution supports "international stabilization forces" and aims to ensure "a stable, secure, peaceful, and prosperous future for Palestinians in Gaza without Hamas," noting it had negotiated the document within the Security Council since early November.
