Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi have coordinated their positions on Iran's nuclear program ahead of the upcoming IAEA Board of Governors session. The discussion took place during a phone call initiated by the Iranian side, according to a statement from Russia's Foreign Ministry.
"The ministers conducted a useful exchange of views on issues related to Iran's nuclear program preceding the opening session of the IAEA Board of Governors," the ministry noted.
Lavrov and Araghchi also continued their substantive discussion on current regional issues, particularly emphasizing the importance of resolving Afghan-Pakistani differences through political and diplomatic means. Regarding Palestinian-Israeli settlement, both ministers stressed the necessity of achieving sustainable peace based on established international legal frameworks and fully incorporating existing resolutions on Palestinian statehood into the UN Security Council's current work.
Additionally, the foreign ministers expressed "great satisfaction with the intensified frequency of bilateral contacts at various levels, which contribute to further expanding comprehensive Russian-Iranian strategic partnership."
