President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey, in a phone call with French leader Emmanuel Macron, stated that he is maintaining contact with Russia and Ukraine regarding the resumption of the Istanbul negotiations.
"Our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron at the request of the French side. He stated that Turkey is making maximum efforts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia with a just and lasting peace. He indicated that contacts with the parties are ongoing with the aim of restarting the Istanbul process, and that Turkey is ready to do everything possible to open the door to peace as soon as possible," Erdoğan's office reported.
He also told Macron that "diplomatic channels must be used in the most effective way to achieve a lasting peace." According to him, "Turkey's support for the ceasefire process will continue to grow," and "peace efforts will be aided if countries avoid steps that could jeopardize global peace."
