Gaza Authorities Warn of Unprecedented Humanitarian Catastrophe

17 November

Gaza faces an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe as winter approaches, according to a statement released by the enclave's media office via Telegram.

The statement reports that 288,000 displaced Palestinian families in refugee tent camps are facing extreme hardship. Following the first heavy rainfall, "tens of thousands of tents" were partially or completely flooded, rendering them uninhabitable. Consequently, "hundreds of thousands" of displaced persons are now forced to live in horrific conditions, "deprived of even the most basic necessities."

Despite the ceasefire, the statement notes that adequate aid continues to fail to reach Gaza. Residents who lost their homes due to Israeli actions urgently require tents, mobile homes, construction materials for insulation, heating equipment, and other supplies to maintain basic sanitary and living conditions during winter.

The authorities characterize the situation as an impending "unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe" and are calling upon the international community and global organizations to take immediate action to assist Gaza's population.
