Lebanese Prime Minister Expresses Frustration Over Israel Truce Violations

27 November

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has voiced deep disappointment over Israel's escalating military strikes despite the ongoing truce, stating that civilian casualties are becoming increasingly difficult to prevent.

"We have an uncontrolled player acting as a hegemon under [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's leadership, growing stronger by the day. Meanwhile, a new generation has emerged globally that will no longer tolerate Israel's behavior," Mikati told The New York Times.

The prime minister emphasized that Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory are destabilizing the country and complicating disarmament efforts against Hezbollah. He revealed that during his call with the US-French monitoring mission following one recent attack, "within thirty minutes they called back reporting five fatalities, including three children, from an Israeli drone strike. I'm frustrated, but what's the point of protesting repeatedly?"

Mikati also highlighted Israel's failure to fully withdraw from border areas, maintaining control over five strategic heights. "I've repeatedly raised this with American military officials monitoring the ceasefire," he stated, adding: "I told them we're not in 1914 or 1915. You don't need to occupy 700-meter hilltops with binoculars for surveillance - Israel has satellite imagery, drones and advanced camera-equipped balloons."

The comments follow the November 23 strike near Beirut that Israel said targeted Hezbollah's chief of staff, whom it accused of "directing the terrorist organization's fortification and armament."
