Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sadyr Japarov paid tribute at the Victory Square memorial in Bishkek, laying wreaths at the Eternal Flame monument.
Accompanied by an honor guard, both leaders followed soldiers carrying floral arrangements to the memorial's upper platform. After placing the wreaths, Putin and Japarov straightened the mourning ribbons and observed a moment of silence for those fallen in the Great Patriotic War.
The memorial ceremony concluded with a three-volley rifle salute by the honor guard.
The Victory Square memorial complex, erected in 1985 for the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, features a distinctive arch composed of three curved lines resembling a traditional yurt's silhouette. The arches converge at a metal wreath symbolizing the glory of the victors, with a "Mother" statue and the Eternal Flame beneath. The site includes sculptures dedicated to Kyrgyz heroes of World War II, with six marble slabs flanking the staircase inscribed in both Russian and Kyrgyz with names of war heroes and reflections on the Victory's significance.
