Saudi Arabia Delivers First Oil Shipment to Syria as Humanitarian Grant

17 November

Saudi Arabia has supplied Syria with its first shipment of oil under a previously agreed assistance package designed to support the Arab republic's energy sector, Al Arabiya reported.

A tanker carrying 650,000 barrels of oil arrived at the port of Baniyas on November 16. This delivery represents the initial part of a larger 1.65 million-barrel oil grant.

The Saudi Fund for Development and Syria's Ministry of Energy had signed the grant agreement on September 11, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and stability of Syrian oil refineries. The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation signed between Riyadh and Damascus in late July, which envisions expanded collaboration in oil and gas, petrochemicals, electric power, and renewable energy sectors.
