Russia will supply 1 million doses of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine for migrant workers from Uzbekistan, and a contract to supply the second Russian vaccine, Epivakkorona, to the republic is also expected in 2021, Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Vladimir Tyurdenyev told reporters Monday.
Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov delivered 100 doses of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V against coronavirus to Tashkent in early December. The samples were handed over to the Uzbek side for further testing necessary to pass registration and start industrial production of the vaccine in the republic. A representative of Uzbekistan's Sanitary-Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Service told RIA Novosti that the authorities would soon make a decision on the use of the received batch.
"An agreement has been signed on the supply of another 1 million doses of the drug to vaccinate migrant workers leaving (Uzbekistan - ed.) for work in Russia," Tyurdenev said during a press conference on the results of 2020.
The ambassador said that next year it is also expected "to conclude a contract to buy the second COVID-19 vaccine Epivakkoron from Russia".
The diplomat also recalled that Russia was the first to supply test systems for diagnosing coronavirus to Uzbekistan at no cost, and Russian doctors and Rospotrebnadzor specialists worked selflessly in the "red zones," side by side with their Uzbek colleagues to save lives in hospitals and clinics in the republic.
"But you can't say it's a one-way road. Tashkent, in a difficult period for both our countries, also handed Moscow several shipments of humanitarian supplies with personal protective equipment," Tyurdenev added.
