Kazan Will for the First Time Host the International Award for BRICS and SCO Young Leaders

07 December 2023

On 11 December, a new international award for young leaders of BRICS and SCO countries will be presented in Kazan for the first time. The award has already been dubbed the “Youth Nobel”.

In the coming weekend, Tatarstan will once again confirm its status of an active participant in international youth diplomacy. It is in the capital of Tatarstan that the first awarding ceremony of the winners of the BRICS and SCO Young Leaders Award International Competition will take place. Among the participants there are representatives of Brazil, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, South Africa and Russia. The youth award ceremony will be held on the eve of Russia’s presidency in the BRICS group in 2024 and in view of Russia’s active interaction with BRICS and SCO countries and the upcoming expansion of these organizations.

The prize will be awarded in five nominations: “Mediainfluencer of the Year”, “Social Entrepreneur of the Year”, “Public Diplomacy Project of the Year”, “Researcher of the Year”, and “Eco-initiative of the Year”. The Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year nomination is open to authors of projects related to one of the 17 sustainable development goals implemented in the BRICS and SCO member states in 2022-2023. Candidates in the Young Researcher of the Year nomination are authors of scientific research in the field of history, education, art, IT, law, philosophy and finance. Among the Young Mediainfluencers participating in the contest are socially responsible bloggers with at least 50 000 subscribers.

‘Young leaders are very active on the international agenda, and youth initiatives become the basis for close cooperation between different countries. This time we are organizing an event that will draw attention to significant social aspects of international diplomacy and highlight truly inspiring examples of youth initiatives. Among the applicants for the award are candidates whose potential is no worse than that of hyped international activists. Our task within the framework of the award is to help young leaders of BRICS and SCO countries to brightly present their projects to the international community,’ award organizer Dilbar Sadykova, chairperson of the Academy of Youth Diplomacy said. According to her, among the interesting applications are an agricultural project aimed at organizing direct sales between farmers and consumers on Internet platforms, an online educational platform for monetizing skills for women, a hospital for those in need and even an unmanned aerial vehicle powered by solar energy.

The winners will be awarded with special memorable prizes from the Organizing Committee and will become guests of the Republican Youth Forum “Our Tatarstan”, which will unite over 10 youth projects of Tatarstan.

The event is organized with the support of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs “Rosmolodezh”, the Council of Young Diplomats of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan and the ANO “Leaders of International Cooperation” and the SCO Centre for Public Diplomacy.
