Iran Proposes Visa-Free Travel for Scientists and Professors

01 February

Iran has extended an offer to Russia to eliminate visa requirements for scientists and academics from both nations. Hadi Goudarzi, the counselor at the Iranian Embassy in Russia, made this announcement to TASS.

He stated, "Initially, we could establish visa-free travel for scientists and professors who are employed by universities, allowing them to travel between Russia and Iran. This proposal has already been forwarded to our counterparts in Russia, and we are currently discussing it with the Russian Foreign Ministry. Our aim is to facilitate seamless travel for our scientists and university staff members who are actively involved in research within the universities of Russia and Iran."

Goudarzi also suggested that once the arrangements for academic travel are established, they might consider extending visa-free travel options to all individuals, enabling them to travel freely between the two countries. As of August 1, 2023, visa-free group travel between Russia and Iran has been operational. This arrangement, which came into effect on July 1, 2021, allows citizens of both countries to visit each other for tourism purposes in groups of up to 50 people for stays not exceeding 15 days, without the need for visas.
