MGIMO to Launch Its Astana Branch on September 1

05 March

The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) will officially open a new branch in Astana starting September 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced during a meeting of the university's supervisory and board of trustees councils.

Lavrov noted that the idea of opening the branch was discussed during President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Kazakhstan in November 2024. Since then, MGIMO’s leadership has been actively working with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education to make it happen.

The Astana branch will initially operate out of the Eurasian National University’s campus. At the same time, Russian and Kazakhstani officials will explore options for providing a permanent building for MGIMO in the capital.

“We are especially grateful to our Kazakhstani partners for their strong support throughout this process,” Lavrov added.
