Russian Education Fair Opens in Tashkent

19 September

The opening ceremony for the International Educational Exhibition-Fair “Russian Education. Tashkent – 2025” was held at the MGIMO branch in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, TASS reports.

Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexey Yerkhov noted in his welcoming remarks that this event is now in its third consecutive year. “Last year, around 4,000 visitors attended the exhibition, and today we see growing interest in Russian education,” said the ambassador. Starting from 2024, the number of government quota places for Uzbek citizens studying at Russian universities has been increased to 810. “Nothing shapes a country’s future as much as education. That’s why it is crucial to think about it today. Perhaps some of the young visitors in this hall will open the doors to the world of science, becoming teachers and outstanding scientists,” Yerkhov added.

Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Pavel Shevtsov emphasized the strategic partnership between Moscow and Tashkent across various sectors, highlighting the importance of humanitarian cooperation. He specifically mentioned collaboration in higher education and preparing future professionals who will contribute to Uzbekistan’s socio-economic development.

Irina Staroselskaya, Head of the Russian House in Tashkent, encouraged prospective students to carefully select the right field of study, university, and region.

MGIMO branch Director in Tashkent, Abdujabbor Abduvohidov, pointed out that youth make up about 60% of Uzbekistan’s population. “We highly value Russian education in Uzbekistan,” he said, noting that no other country has as many university branches in Uzbekistan as Russia—14 branches attended by a large number of young Uzbek citizens.

Following speeches by the honored guests and a lively concert, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting took place. Participants toured the pavilion and familiarized themselves with the exhibition’s offerings.
