Russian Union of Rectors to Establish University Alliances among BRICS and SCO Countries

The Russian Union of Rectors (RUR) is set to form alliances of universities from BRICS and SCO countries, as stated by Viktor Sadovnichy, the Chairman of the union and the Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University.

 

"In October 2024, preceding the BRICS Heads of State Summit, Moscow University will host the inaugural BRICS University Rectors Forum. Subsequently, we aim to establish the BRICS Universities Alliance," Sadovnichy announced during the Universities and the Future forum.

 

Sadovnichy highlighted that the RUR and MSU actively engage with universities and scientific institutions in SCO member countries, particularly China and Central Asia. "One mode of interaction is through the SCO Network University. Presently, efforts are underway for the formation of the SCO Universities Alliance," he added.

 

The BRICS association comprises nine countries: Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
