Winners of the International Olympiad Announced

15 November

The award ceremony for the XVII International Olympiad for Students of Islamic Educational Institutions in Islamic Studies and the Arabic Language, with the participation of BRICS countries, took place today at the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan. The event was organized by the Russian Islamic Institute (RII) in collaboration with the Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (UAE) and supported by the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science, and Education.

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, Rector of RII Rafik Mukhametshin, Head of the Department for Interaction with Religious Associations of the Rais of Tatarstan’s Office, Albert Dirzizov, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the Mohamed Bin Zayed University, Dr. Yusuf Omar, Deputy Director of the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science, and Education, Damir Khayretdinov, and Acting Head of the Department for Interaction with Public Organizations of the Executive Committee of Kazan, Ilgiz Sarmanov.

The participants and guests of the Olympiad were warmly welcomed by the Mufti of Tatarstan, Kamil Hazrat Samigullin, who emphasized the essential role of scholars and those who possess knowledge. He quoted Hasan al-Basri, shedding light on the factors that contribute to the decline of religion.

“People act not according to knowledge, but based on what they know nothing about. They fail to acquire knowledge to eliminate their ignorance and, moreover, obstruct others from gaining knowledge,” remarked Kamil Hazrat. He stressed the importance of continuing education and holding events like this Olympiad, as they ensure that knowledge is preserved and provide hope for the growth of the Islamic faith.

Rafik Mukhametshin, Rector of the Russian Islamic Institute (RII), expressed optimism about the Olympiad's future, envisioning broader participation, including representatives from Arab countries.

“I hope that in the near future, we will invite participants from Arab countries and further expand the geographical scope of the Olympiad. I trust that you enjoyed your time in Kazan and have taken away many positive impressions,” said Mukhametshin.

Damir Khayretdinov, Deputy Director of the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture, Science, and Education, also addressed the audience.

“I hope that, in addition to participating in the Olympiad, our international guests had the chance to observe the development of Islam in Russia. The Russian state is making efforts to revive traditional religions, including Islam,” noted Khayretdinov.

Following these welcoming speeches, the event reached its most anticipated moment—the awarding of the Olympiad winners.
