African Union Denounces Israel's Expansion of Conflict to Rafah

Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AU), has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip, expressing deep concern over the escalating casualties and widespread destruction of livelihoods. In a communique released via the official AU account on X (formerly Twitter), Mahamat emphasized the detrimental impact of Israel's military operations on the civilian population.

 

"The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, expresses extreme concern over Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip, resulting in mass casualties and the systematic destruction of people's livelihoods," - stated the AU head. - "He vehemently condemns the expansion of hostilities to the Rafah area, the sole corridor for humanitarian aid. He calls upon the entire international community to collectively and effectively intervene to halt this deadly escalation."

 

According to reports from the Israel Defense Forces press service on Tuesday, Israeli military forces seized control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, situated on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Additionally, the press service detailed the commencement of a targeted counter-terrorism operation in eastern Rafah, along with airstrikes targeting Hamas military installations in the area, resulting in the elimination of 20 armed militants.
