Al-Shifa Director Claims All ICU Patients Killed Due to Israeli Siege

17 November 2023

Mohammed Abu Silmiya, the Director of Al-Shifa Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, informed Sky News Arabia that all patients in the intensive care unit died due to the blockade imposed by the Israeli military on the medical complex.

"All the patients in intensive care died due to the week-long siege imposed by Israel," emphasized Abu Silmiya. "Over 54 people have been killed in the hospital since the beginning of the siege, and those currently in critical condition are at risk. Internally displaced people face dire humanitarian conditions. The hospital has transformed into a cemetery, a prison, and an Israeli   barracks simultaneously, with the military targeting anything that moves on the hospital grounds."

Al Hadath reported that the Israeli military is preventing anyone from leaving Al-Shifa Hospital and its surroundings. Despite assurances that no militants are present, individuals attempting to leave are detained. The Israeli military conducts searches and interrogations, while international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, are denied access. Those trapped face the danger of being without water, food, and medicine. The Israeli military claims to have delivered water and ready meals to Al-Shifa hospital staff. The assault on Al-Shifa Hospital began on Nov. 15, targeting what the IDF claims is the main command headquarters of the Palestinian Hamas movement. The military alleges the presence of underground compounds and hostages.
