Algeria plans to present a draft resolution to the UN Security Council (UNSC) urging for an end to hostilities in Rafah, Gaza Strip, stated Amar Benjama, Algeria's Permanent Representative to the UN.
"After a closed-door meeting of the Security Council on the Rafah issue, Algeria will circulate a draft resolution on Rafah tonight," Benjama told reporters.
The draft resolution aims to "stop the killings in Rafah," according to Benjama.
Earlier, France's Permanent Representative to the UN, Nicolas de Rivière, emphasized the urgent need for the Security Council to take action to prevent further violence in Rafah.
On May 24, the UN International Court of Justice ruled in favor of South Africa's lawsuit, stating that Israel must cease its military offensive in Rafah and refrain from any actions that could harm the city's population. Additionally, the court ordered Israel to keep the Rafah crossing open to provide assistance to the Palestinian population.
