The member states of the Arab League have reaffirmed the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent sovereign state on their national territory. This was stated in the final declaration published following the emergency summit, which took place in Egypt's New Administrative Capital.
“Our strategic choice is to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that fulfills all the rights of the Palestinian people, primarily their right to freedom and the creation of an independent sovereign state on their national territory, based on the two-state solution,” the text reads.
The Arab states condemned the strategy of starvation and the scorched earth tactics aimed at forcing the Palestinian people to leave their land. The Arab League summit stressed the importance of Israel complying with international resolutions that reject any attempts to alter the demographic composition of Palestinian territories.
The emergency summit was convened at the request of Palestine, following recent statements by US President Donald Trump. Trump has suggested that Washington is considering long-term control over Gaza and the resettlement of Palestinians from the enclave to other countries in the region.
The leaders of Arab states unanimously adopted a plan prepared by Cairo for the reconstruction of Gaza, as well as the final declaration.
