Arab League Hopes Russia Will Be Invited to Gaza Reconstruction Conference

21 October

Russia's participation is essential in both the Gaza reconstruction process and the upcoming international conference on this issue, according to Walid Hamid Shiltagh, Head of the Arab League Mission in Moscow.

“We welcome the agreement reached at the Sharm el-Sheikh meeting. Reconstruction was one of the key topics discussed, and all nations should contribute to this process,” Shiltagh told Izvestia. “While Russia wasn't present at that particular meeting, we believe its involvement as a major power that consistently supports the Palestinian position is crucial for this comprehensive peace project.”

The League representative emphasized the critical importance of Gaza's reconstruction, noting: “A conference on Gaza's reconstruction is being planned. Whether Russia will be invited remains to be seen—I don't have specific information yet—but I firmly believe Russia should participate in such events concerning regional peace and stability, particularly when it involves Palestine.”

He added that “Russian assistance to Palestinians has never ceased,” noting that “even during the most intense fighting and the tragedy faced by the Palestinian people, Moscow continued to provide aid and maintain its support for the Palestinian cause.”
