Yerevan accused Baku of not observing the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"In flagrant violation of the US humanitarian ceasefire agreement, the Azerbaijani side at 08:45 (07:45 Moscow time) opened artillery fire on the positions (of the Defense Army - rd.) of Artsakh (Karabakh's self-name - ed.) in the northeastern direction of the line of contact," Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Shushan Stepanyan wrote on Facebook.
Earlier Azerbaijan accused Armenia of violating the new agreements from the first minutes after their entry into force. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic specified that Armenians were attacking in Lachin district. Yerevan, on the other hand, announced that Azerbaijanis were attacking in the southeast of Karabakh.
On the eve, the US State Department published a joint statement of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Ceyhun Bayramov on humanitarian truce from 07:00 Moscow time.
The situation in the region escalated on September 27. Baku and Yerevan laid the responsibility for the escalation of the conflict on each other. There are casualties among the civilian population.
The situation is complicated by the fact that Azerbaijan is actively supported by Turkey (NATO member). In its turn, Armenia is a member of the CSTO. The world community calls on the sides for restraint.
The current truce was preceded by two attempts to achieve a ceasefire. The first one was made on the night of October 10 at consultations in Moscow. The Foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan were invited to the Russian capital by President Vladimir Putin. As a result of the meeting, Baku and Yerevan agreed on the ceasefire from 12:00 on October 10 - to exchange prisoners and deceased bodies. However, almost immediately the sides started accusing each other of violation of agreements.
On the night of October 18, the parties to the conflict again tried to organize a humanitarian truce, but the second attempt also failed.
