Bishkek introduces the state of emergency

President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov by his decree introduced the state of emergency in Bishkek from 20:00 (17:00 Moscow time) on October 9.


The press-service of the President of Kyrgyzstan specifies that the state of emergency will be in force until 08:00 (05:00 Moscow time) on October 21.


Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Orozaliyev became the commandant in Bishkek. The general staff of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces is to bring troops into the city to stop armed clashes and guard the law.


The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Committee of National Security, the General Staff of the Armed Forces and other involved state bodies are instructed "to provide the commandant with all available forces and means to ensure security, protection of life and health of citizens.


In addition, the president instructed the mass media "to disseminate the information provided by the commandant in order to avoid the pressure of the current situation". The Prosecutor General's Office was instructed to ensure supervision over the observance of legality in the implementation of measures and time limits.
