Bogdanov Discusses Middle East Conflict Resolution with Palestinian Politician

19 March

Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov held talks with Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Fatah Central Committee member. The discussion focused on prospects for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict amid the renewed fighting in Gaza, Russia’s Foreign Ministry (MFA) reported.

“During the conversation, the importance of uniting Palestinian political factions under the PLO's platform was emphasized. Russia also reiterated its support for a negotiation process based on international legal frameworks, calling for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting peacefully with Israel,” the statement read.

The talks were initiated by the Palestinian side.

On March 18, the Israeli military launched massive strikes on Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office stated the operation was in response to Hamas rejecting peace proposals mediated by the US and other intermediaries, emphasizing that securing the release of all hostages remains a priority.

Meanwhile, Hamas blamed Israel and the US for the renewed violence.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the death toll has exceeded 400, with more than 560 injured in the latest wave of attacks.
