Trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Iran has significantly strengthened since January 2022, President of the Islamic Republic Ebrahim Raisi said on Wednesday.
"The economic indicators of our cooperation with Russia have increased by 80% since my visit to this country [January 19-20], and we continue to work on joint projects in the fields of economy, trade, space and logistics," Iran's Isna news agency quoted the president as saying.
He also expressed hope that Iran's accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) would strengthen trade relations with the member states of the organization. He said participation in the integration processes is an important factor for Iran's economic development.
Ebrahim Raisi attended the SCO summit in Samarkand on September 15-16. Iran signed a memorandum on the commitments to obtain the status of an SCO member state. After fulfilling the relevant obligations, the Islamic Republic will complete the formal procedure of accession to the organization.
