More than 200 citizens of the Russian Federation, CIS and friendly countries, who were evacuated from the Republic of Sudan by aircraft of the Russian Air and Space Forces, have arrived in Moscow, the Russian defense ministry said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
"More than 200 people evacuated from the Republic of Sudan have arrived at Moscow. <...> The evacuation of citizens was carried out by aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Air and Space Forces," the message in the Telegram channel of the military department reads.
The ministry clarified that employees of the Russian diplomatic mission, representative offices of the Russian defense ministry and their family members, citizens of Russia, as well as citizens of the CIS countries and a number of friendly foreign countries, who applied for assistance in their return home, were evacuated from Sudan by the order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, the Russian defense ministry reported that four Il-76 planes of the military transport aviation of the Russian Air Force were involved in the evacuation of citizens.
