Fidan Discusses Importance of Successful Ukraine Talks in Meeting with Putin

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that he had discussed a range of concerns raised by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the conflict in Ukraine during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 26. Speaking at a joint press conference in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Fidan emphasized the significance Ankara places on the successful outcome of the ongoing negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.

 

“During our meeting yesterday with Mr. Putin, we addressed key issues that are of particular sensitivity for our president,” Fidan said. “Most importantly, we underlined the need for the ongoing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to yield concrete results. We discussed the talks held in Istanbul, and we conveyed our request for future rounds of negotiations to take place in Turkey.”

 

He further stressed that Turkey remains ready to play an active role in supporting the peace process. “In our contacts with the Russian leadership, we made it clear that we are prepared to contribute in any way we can to this effort,” the minister added.
