Foreign Ministry: Russia Strengthened Its Position in Africa in 2025

26 December 2025

Russia consolidated its presence across the African continent over the past year, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in its annual review of foreign policy achievements.

“Russia strengthened its position on the African continent. A new dialogue mechanism — Russia–Confederation of Sahel States — was established at the level of foreign ministers. The Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, held in Cairo in December, laid the groundwork for the next Russia–Africa summit in 2026. Intergovernmental agreements on the principles of relations were signed with Mali and Togo, and Russia’s new embassy in South Sudan began operations in December,” the ministry said.

The Russia–Africa Partnership Forum’s second ministerial conference took place in Cairo on December 19–20. Speaking at the plenary session, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Russia and African nations will prepare a new strategic document ahead of the third Russia–Africa Summit scheduled for 2026.
