G20 Leaders Concerned Over Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza and Escalation in Lebanon

19 November

The leaders of the G20 have expressed grave concern over the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the intensifying tensions in Lebanon. This was outlined in the final declaration of the Rio de Janeiro summit.

“Expressing our deep concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the escalation in Lebanon, we emphasize the urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian aid, strengthen the protection of civilians, and remove all barriers to large-scale humanitarian assistance,” the declaration states.

“Reaffirming the right of Palestinians to self-determination, we underline our unwavering commitment to the vision of a two-state solution, where Israel and Palestine live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions,” the G20 leaders added.

The declaration also underscored the need to support comprehensive ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, calling for their implementation in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2735.

The G20 summit, held in Rio de Janeiro from November 18 to 19, was attended by representatives from 42 countries. Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
