Hamas and Fatah Reportedly Agree to Form Gaza Governance Committee Post-Conflict

03 December

The Palestinian movements Hamas and Fatah have reached an agreement to establish a joint committee to manage the Gaza Strip after the ongoing conflict, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing unnamed sources involved in the negotiations.

The report indicates that the parties approved a draft agreement during talks held in Cairo. Under this plan, a committee comprising 10-15 members will oversee humanitarian aid, education, healthcare, economic development, and the reconstruction of Gaza once the conflict ends. Additionally, the committee will manage the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

The draft agreement still requires the approval of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. To facilitate this, a Fatah delegation is expected to travel to Ramallah later in the day. Meanwhile, the Hamas delegation is reportedly led by Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the movement’s political bureau, AFP’s sources added.

The latest round of negotiations between representatives of Hamas and Fatah took place in Cairo from November 2 to 4, focusing on the establishment of a temporary body to administer the Gaza Strip.
