23 June 2023

Chairman of the African Union, President of the Comoros Azali Assoumani has called for Africa's full participation at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September, he said during the closing ceremony of the new global financial pact summit.

"Since you mentioned the African Union countries, I want to ask you all to ensure that at the next G20 summit in New Delhi, Africa is represented as a full member," he said.

Assoumani added that Africa is preparing to take its niche in a multipolar world and asks for support.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden invited the African Union to join the G20 countries as a permanent member.

The summit takes place in Paris on June 22-23. As conceived by its initiator, French President Emmanuel Macron, the purpose of the summit is to agree on views on the reform of the global financial system and to develop proposals that would then be discussed in other forums. The event is expected to be attended by leaders of 50 states, including Germany, Brazil, the Central African Republic, Senegal, Chad, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya and others.
