Kosachev urged Baku and Yerevan to listen to the statement of the leaders of the three countries on Karabakh

Armenian and Azerbaijani politicians should heed the position of the leaders of Russia, the US and France on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh expressed in their joint statement that there will be no support for those responsible for the continuation of hostilities. This opinion was expressed on Thursday by Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs.

"If I were politicians of Azerbaijan and Armenia, I would really listen to the position expressed in the statement. It points out quite harshly that there will be no approval and support for those responsible for the continuation of hostilities and casualties among the population. And here it will not be possible to play the theme of contradictions between Russia and the West, on which some third countries are already trying to speculate," Kosachev wrote on his Facebook page.

He noted that this joint statement is very important given the unfavorable political and diplomatic background, where the leaders of the three countries managed to agree on positions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "And this background is unfavorable to such an extent that many could suspect the absence of dialogue between the three countries in principle. That is why the common position voiced by the three leaders on one of the most acute international problems, condemning the escalation of violence, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and resumption of negotiations on a substance without preconditions, is not only important for the conflict itself," the senator is sure.

In his opinion, this is an indicator that international diplomacy is still alive, that the community is ready to respond to challenges, that there are topics that unite so different countries, helping to put aside contradictions. "A strong move by world leaders, it inspires hope for normalization of the situation in the region," Kosachev concluded.

Earlier, the presidents of Russia, USA and France, as the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, adopted a statement on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The leaders stressed that they "condemn in the strongest possible ways the escalation of violence that is taking place on the line of contact in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone". They called for "an immediate cessation of hostilities between the armed forces of the parties involved".
