Lavrov confirms readiness to cooperate with Libya's transitional administration

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed Moscow's readiness for constructive interaction with Libya's transitional administration during telephone talks with Presidential Council Chairman Mohammed al-Manafi and Prime Minister Abdel Hamid al-Dbeiba.


"Sergey Lavrov confirmed Russia's readiness for constructive interaction with Libya's transitional administration in order to overcome the protracted crisis in that country as soon as possible, and also emphasized the spirit of strengthening cooperation in the interests of further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Libyan relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.


At the same time, Lavrov stressed that the elected politicians face difficult tasks and wished success in solving them.
In turn, the Russian Minister's interlocutors praised Russia's position throughout the Libyan crisis, and noted "Moscow's constructive and proactive role in promoting the settlement process on the principles of involving representatives of all historical regions and political forces in Libya".


The Forum of the Libyan Political Dialogue at the meeting in Switzerland elected Mohammed al-Manafi as Chairman of the Presidential Council, Moussa al-Quni and Abdalla al-Lafi as members of the Presidential Council and Abdel Hamid al-Dbeiba as Prime Minister. Their main task will be to hold national elections in the country on December 24, 2021.
