Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed Russia's support for the efforts of the Sudanese authorities to stabilize the situation in the country during a meeting with Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
"I'm pleased to meet with you today. It's a valuable opportunity for us to discuss the future of our relations. I want to emphasize that we fully support your endeavors to bring stability and normalcy to Sudan," Lavrov stated during the meeting, which occurred on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
During their discussion, as reported by the Russian Foreign Ministry after the meeting, "significant emphasis was placed on the situation in Sudan, arising from the ongoing hostilities between units of the regular army and the rapid reaction forces." "The Russian side stressed the importance of halting armed conflicts and addressing all disputes through diplomatic negotiations," the ministry clarified.
The two officials discussed various aspects of enhancing the longstanding and friendly relations between Russia and Sudan. They reaffirmed their willingness to bolster foreign policy coordination at the United Nations and other international platforms concerning pertinent global and regional matters, as clarified by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
