The Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan adopted a resolution at a meeting on Friday to abolish martial law in the country from December 12, imposed in connection with military operations in Karabakh.
"To approve the decree of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the abolition of martial law"," a resolution of the legislative body reads. According to the document, martial law is abolished from 00:00 on December 12 (23:00 on December 11 Moscow time).
Martial law was imposed all over Azerbaijan on September 28 due to the beginning of military actions in Karabakh.
On September 27, the situation escalated in Nagorno-Karabakh and active fighting broke out there. Baku and Yerevan have disputed ownership of the region since February 1988, when it announced its secession from the Azerbaijani SSR. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the document, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stop at the occupied positions, then a number of areas come under Baku's control, and Russian peacekeepers are deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor.
