Russia and Turkey maintain active political dialogue across a wide range of issues and collaborate in addressing new challenges, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko stated in a congratulatory message to Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş on Republic Day.
“On behalf of the Federation Council, I extend congratulations on Republic Day,” Matviyenko wrote. “Our countries maintain active political dialogue on a broad spectrum of issues, cooperate in resolving key contemporary problems, and participate in finding responses to new challenges and threats.”
The speaker emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy plays a particularly important role in expanding Russian-Turkish relations. She noted that regular contacts between legislators of both nations clearly demonstrate mutual interest in developing cooperation across trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
Republic Day, celebrated on October 29, marks Turkey's national holiday commemorating the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 following the Kemalist Revolution (1919-1923).
