Russian lawmakers are actively involved in developing a draft agreement on the foundations of relations between Russia and Burkina Faso, Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko said during a meeting in Geneva with Ousmane Bougouma, Chairman of the Transitional Legislative Assembly of Burkina Faso. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
“Relations between Russia and Burkina Faso are very important to us. Work is currently underway on a draft agreement outlining the foundations of our bilateral ties. Russian parliamentarians are playing an active role in this process,” Matviyenko stated.
She also noted that the Federation Council has a special group for cooperation with the parliaments of African states, headed by the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Grigory Karasin. “We are committed to strengthening contact and expanding cooperation through these parliamentary groups,” she added.
Matviyenko emphasized that lawmakers attach great importance to further developing the legal and contractual framework for cooperation, and proposed that Burkina Faso’s parliamentarians also keep this issue under their oversight.
