Participants in the ongoing negotiations in Cairo have reached agreements on several key issues, with consultations set to continue in the coming days, according to the Egyptian TV channel Extra News.
Sources indicate that negotiators will travel to Doha on Wednesday, returning to Cairo on Thursday. This move aims to "reach an agreement between Israel and the [Palestinian movement] Hamas on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible." The TV station did not provide additional details about the talks.
A new round of indirect negotiations between the parties involved in the Gaza conflict was made possible after Hamas responded to proposals presented by US President Joe Biden in late May. On July 3, the offices of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Mossad intelligence service announced they had received a response from Hamas representatives regarding the hostage deal through intermediaries and would be issuing a reply. The following day, Hamas announced that its politburo chief, Ismail Haniyeh, had consulted with officials from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey on potential solutions for the Gaza situation. Egypt and Qatar are acting as mediators in the negotiations with Israel.
