Nearly 900 trucks carrying humanitarian aid have reached the Gaza Strip, which has been grappling with severe shortages of food and essential supplies due to Israel’s blockade of the northern part of the enclave, Al Jazeera states, citing a report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
“Almost 900 trucks with humanitarian aid arrived in Gaza on Tuesday as assistance into the war-torn territory following the lifting of Israel’s blockade,” the network stated.
Two weeks ago, OCHA had warned that the hunger crisis in Gaza was worsening due to the critical shortage of food supplies caused by strict access restrictions to the Palestinian enclave.
The resumption of humanitarian deliveries became possible after Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, announced on January 15 that mediation efforts by Washington, Doha, and Cairo had led to an agreement between the conflicting parties. The agreement included the release of hostages and the implementation of a ceasefire.
The cessation of hostilities officially began on January 19.
