Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will spend the third day of his working visit to Kazakhstan in Almaty, where he will take part in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council (EIC) and the plenary session of the Digital Almaty 2025 forum.
Mishustin’s early-year visit to Kazakhstan has become a tradition. Since assuming office in 2020, he has attended the Digital Almaty forum annually.
His schedule for this trip is packed. The day before, in Astana, he held meetings with Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. According to Mishustin, the discussions were productive, resulting in agreements on 30 key issues in Russian-Kazakh relations. On the same day, a closed-session meeting of the EIC also took place.
Key Agenda
This will be the 42nd session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council since the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was established in 2015. The first meeting of the year is traditionally held in Almaty, and 2025 is no exception.
Participants will discuss further economic integration within the EAEU, assess the state of the Eurasian market and macroeconomic trends, and review joint projects. A major focus will be on subsidizing cooperative initiatives, particularly in agriculture, from the EAEU budget, as well as strengthening collaboration in customs regulation.
Alongside Mishustin and representatives from EAEU member states—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—the session will also welcome observers such as Iran, Cuba, and Uzbekistan, as well as invited guests from Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
Digital Almaty Forum
As in previous years, Mishustin will also speak at the Digital Almaty plenary session. According to the event’s program, he and other EAEU government leaders will discuss the region’s digital agenda, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and technological cooperation.
Launched in 2018, Digital Almaty has become the region’s leading platform for advancing digital initiatives. This year’s forum is focused on AI and is themed "Industrial AI: Technologies for a New Era."
