Moscow will host meetings of the heads of government from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) on December 12-13, with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin chairing the discussions, according to a statement from the Russian government.
"On December 12-13, 2024, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will participate in the meetings of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS and the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council," the statement read.
The CIS meeting, chaired by Russia, will focus on strengthening trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation across member states.
Meanwhile, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council will address the deepening of Eurasian economic integration. The agenda will prioritize enhancing collaboration in energy, industrial development, and the expansion of e-commerce, according to the Russian government.
The EAEU comprises Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, all of which are also CIS members.
The CIS currently includes 11 countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously noted that Moldova and Ukraine have long been nominal members and are not actively engaged in the organization's work.
