Mishustin to Visit Almaty for EAEU Meetings and Digital Almaty 2024

01 February

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is set to travel to Almaty for a two-day visit, during which he will participate in the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting and attend the Digital Almaty 2024 digital forum. The Russian government's press service made the announcement.

The current meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council marks the first of the year and the inaugural session under Armenia's presidency in the EAEU bodies for 2024. The last meeting of EAEU prime ministers took place in Bishkek in October 2023.

The agenda for the meeting includes addressing pressing issues of Eurasian integration, such as the operation of the EAEU's internal market, the execution of joint transport sector projects, and the advancement of e-commerce. A significant focus will be placed on the digital agenda, encompassing the enhancement of the Union's integrated information system.

Participants will receive a report from the Eurasian Economic Commission on the macroeconomic situation in EAEU states and recommendations for sustainable economic growth.

Cooperation in the transportation sector will also be a topic of discussion, particularly concerning the implementation of the "Eurasian Agroexpress" project for rapid rail and multimodal transportation of agricultural products. Moreover, the railway administrations of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan intend to sign a memorandum of understanding for the coordinated development of the EAEU countries' railway transport infrastructure and logistics capabilities.

The EAEU currently comprises five member states—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, with Cuba, Moldova, and Uzbekistan maintaining observer status. The Almaty meeting will be attended by the heads of the cabinets of ministers from Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and the chairperson of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Observer states, the CIS secretary-general, and the chairman of the Eurasian Development Bank Board will also be represented.

On February 1-3, the prime ministers of the EAEU countries will join the plenary session of the international Digital Almaty 2024 forum, which is themed "Industry X: Digital Evolution of the Future." The forum will feature political and public figures, major digital company heads, IT business leaders, and industry experts. With an expected attendance of over 30,000 people, the forum will span three days.
