The Ministry of Health of Pakistan is considering a proposal to supply the Russian COVID-19 vaccine and may consider the option of conducting a late-stage clinical trial of the vaccine, Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mehmood Qureshi told RIA Novosti.
"This is a very positive event, and we congratulate the Russian government. This also shows that Russia is qualified in medical sciences. The proposal has been submitted and is under consideration by the Ministry of Health of Pakistan, " Qureshi said after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow.
"We are open, we can consider it," the Pakistani Minister said when asked if the proposal includes the possibility of late-stage clinical trials of the vaccine in Pakistan.
The Russian Ministry of Health previously registered the world's first vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19, developed by the Gamalei research center and produced jointly with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The head of the RDIF Dmitriev reported that the Fund received applications from more than 20 countries for the purchase of a billion doses of Russian coronavirus vaccine. At the same time, he noted that Russia agreed to produce the vaccine in five countries, and the available capacity allows producing 500 million doses per year.
