17 January

The Palestinian Authority is expressing its readiness to assume control of the entire territory, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Husam Zomlot.

"Now is the time: the Palestinian authorities are ready to immediately take control of the entire West Bank, east Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip," - Zomlot stated, as quoted by The Times. - "We reject any military or partial solutions to the Gaza problem. Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and we are against Israel's desire to separate the Strip from the rest of the territories."

According to the newspaper, last week, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh expressed openness to the idea of a unified Palestinian administration.

Zomlot further highlighted that the Palestinians would resist any Israeli attempt to treat Gaza as a separate entity, and stressed that there was no need to wait until the end of the conflict to reunite the territories.
