Palestinian PM Urges US to Translate Words into Actions to Resolve Conflict

15 December 2023

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh urged the United States to move from words to deeds and take concrete steps to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in an interview with the Associated Press.

"American officials who come here, who meet with us, often repeat the same thing: the US supports the resolution of the conflict through the establishment of two states. Now that the US has expressed its stance clearly, we urge Washington to move from words to deeds. This implies the need for concrete steps to actualize the two-state solution, not just maintaining a belief in this outcome," said Shtayyeh.

He suggested that the United States could take specific actions to advance the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Among these actions, he mentioned encouraging Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations. Additionally, he proposed that the US could recognize the State of Palestine within the 1967 borders and take the initiative for a two-state solution to address the long-standing issue.
