Russia has consistently backed a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“The two-state model for a Middle East settlement has always been under discussion and is reflected in the relevant documents. Russia has always adhered to this position,” Peskov said, responding to a question about whether the Kremlin supports French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that France plans to formally recognize the State of Palestine at the UN General Assembly session this September.
In 2024, as tensions rose in the Middle East, Ireland, Spain, and Norway also formally recognized the State of Palestine. Israel responded by recalling its ambassadors from Dublin, Madrid, and Oslo for consultations, and summoned the ambassadors of those countries to its foreign ministry.
It’s worth noting that the Soviet Union, of which Russia is the legal successor, recognized the State of Palestine back in 1988.
