Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Russia for an official visit, TASS reports. His plane landed at Vnukovo-2 Airport at approximately 10:17 Moscow time.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, after which the two leaders will sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Tehran.
Upon exiting the plane, Pezeshkian was greeted by a Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev. The delegation also included Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and Igor Bogdashev, Director of the State Protocol Department of the Foreign Ministry.
The Iranian president walked along a red carpet to the airport's special terminal. Along the carpet stood a guard of honor, accompanied by a military orchestra playing the national anthems of Iran and Russia.
The upcoming meeting between Putin and Pezeshkian will be their third. The previous two meetings took place in October last year—first on the sidelines of an international forum in Ashgabat, and then at the BRICS summit in Kazan.
About the Agreement
On January 14, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov announced that the agreement between Russia and Iran would be signed following the presidents' talks. According to Peskov, Moscow places great importance on the forthcoming signing of the document. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that the agreement does not entail the creation of a defense alliance.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement is expected to be a pivotal step in advancing Russia-Iran relations. Officials from both countries have emphasized that the agreement encompasses all areas of bilateral cooperation and will open new opportunities in various fields of Russia-Iran collaboration, including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
