Putin and Merkel discussed the situation in Karabakh

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed mutual readiness for further cooperation within the OSCE Minsk Group during a telephone conversation, the Kremlin's press office said on Monday.


"Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel ... Mutual readiness for further cooperation within the OSCE Minsk Group was expressed," the report says.


"The situation around Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed in detail. Vladimir Putin informed about the mediation efforts undertaken to stop the hostilities, as well as about the activities of Russian peacekeepers deployed at the request of Baku and Yerevan along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor," the report says.


In addition, it is stressed that consistent implementation of the agreements recorded in the statement of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia on November 9 contributes to the overall stabilization of the situation in the region.


"The importance of solving the pressing problems of the population affected by the fighting was emphasized. In this regard, the parties noted the need to involve specialized international structures in the work of the Center for Humanitarian Response established by Russia," the report also says.
