05 December 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in Moscow on Thursday, December 7, as confirmed by the spokesperson for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov.

"Yes, I can confirm this. Indeed, there will be Russian-Iranian talks on December 7 in Moscow," he responded when asked about the scheduled talks for Thursday. Peskov refrained from commenting on whether oil-related issues would be discussed, stating, "I cannot provide details at this moment; the agenda is still being finalized."

Earlier, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that President Raisi is scheduled to visit Moscow on December 7 at the invitation of President Putin. The discussions between the two leaders are expected to cover economic cooperation and various regional and international issues, with a particular focus on the Palestinian matter and the recent developments in the Gaza Strip.

The last meeting between Putin and Raisi took place in September 2022 in Samarkand on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. During their bilateral talks, it was highlighted that Moscow and Tehran share close or coinciding positions on numerous international issues. The ongoing cooperation between the two states across various domains was also emphasized.
