Putin and UAE President Discuss Russia-US Talks on Ukraine Peace Process

24 March

Russian President Vladimir Putin and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts between Russia and the United States to find a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict. The UAE leader expressed his support for these talks, according to the Kremlin.

During their phone conversation, the two leaders reviewed the progress of negotiations aimed at easing tensions and improving relations between Moscow and Washington.

“President Mohammed Al Nahyan voiced his support for the initiatives undertaken by Russia and the US and welcomed the expert-level discussions currently taking place in Riyadh,” the Kremlin’s statement read.

Putin and US President Donald Trump recently launched a diplomatic effort to restore dialogue between their countries and work toward resolving the Ukraine crisis. As part of this initiative, Russian and American officials are currently holding consultations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a key focus on reviving the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

The grain deal was originally intended to facilitate Ukrainian grain exports while ensuring Russia’s agricultural and fertilizer exports could reach global markets. However, much of Ukraine’s grain ended up in Western countries rather than being delivered to nations in need. Meanwhile, Russia’s conditions under the agreement were not met, leading Moscow to withdraw from the deal in July 2023.
