Putin Claims the West Seeks Revenge for Past Military Failures

02 April

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that some Western countries harbor a desire for revenge following military defeats by Russia in historical conflicts. He referenced Napoleonic France and Nazi Germany as examples of these past campaigns.

"Someone seems to want revenge for failures against Russia stretching back through history, like Hitler's and Napoleon's unsuccessful campaigns. There are numerous such examples. I have personally encountered this sentiment, rather surprisingly, but it is a reality," Putin stated.

The Russian leader also asserted that certain powers are determined to maintain their global hegemony, in part by suppressing Russia and potentially fragmenting the country. Putin vowed that Russia would never be a "weak link" in the face of such aggression and that its unity would endure.
