Putin expressed his condolences to the Lebanese president in connection with Akkar explosion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to Lebanese President Michel Aoun in connection with the tragic aftermath of the explosion of a fuel storage facility in Akkar. The telegram was published on Sunday on the Kremlin website.


"Dear Mr. President, please accept my deep condolences on the tragic consequences of the fuel storage tank explosion in Akkar province. Please convey words of sympathy and support to the families of the victims and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured," the telegram reads.


At least 22 people were killed and 79 injured when the fuel storage tank exploded on Sunday in the Akkar region of northern Lebanon. According to the MTV channel, the tank contained 60,000 liters of fuel oil. The explosion happened at 03:30 (coinciding with Moscow time), followed by a large fire. According to eyewitnesses, rescuers managed to localize the flames.
